Which of the following statements does not describe fascism?
  • A. a political theory advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.
  • B. the veneration of the state, a devotion to a strong leader, and an emphasis on ultra-nationalism and militarism; views political violence, war, and imperialism as a means to achieve national rejuvenation, and it asserts that stronger nations have the right to expand their territory by displacing weaker nations
  • C.a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
  • D. a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
  • E. a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government

Thesis Statement:

  • Japan
  • Soviet Union
  • Italy
  • Germany
  • United States
  • Britain and/or France

B describes fascism.

Through the years of 1929-1933 in Europe Germany and Italy were suffering from the economic dissolution due to world war 1. Italy and Germany both responded by turning to fascism and militarism, while nationalism was found in both Italy and Germany, Germans saw them selves as the "master race" unlike italy. Germany militarized more due to europeans taking more land from germans.

Might want to reread the multiple choice question again.
Is the time stamp "wide enough"?
As far as the categories, what do the rest of you think?

(A) is not and example of fascist beliefs. Fascists believe and extreme nationalism and
a goal of fascism was to unify the country which often went hand-in-hand with militarism and racial purity. When dealing with class war unifying the people often becomes a much more difficult task and unification of the people was of high importance to the fascist. Also a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs is indicative of communism which fascist did not agree with.

Thesis:

Germany and the Soviet Union between the years of 1900 ce to 1950 ce utilized violence imposed upon their people as a way to institute governmental power. However Germany utilized an economic self sufficiency approach while the Soviet Union focused on communal needs rather than individual needs. Also Germany publicly believed in discrimination of their people while the Soviet Union tried to impose a wholly equal society in theory.

Time Stamp should end with the WWII. Your ideas are strong, but I think the categories could use more work. We are looking for clear cut C/C that directly addresses GOVERNMENT RESPONSES TO ECONOMIC DESTITUTION:
Cat 1) doesn't clearly address prompt
Cat 2) are not a direct comparison as written
Cat 3) historically accurate in USSR?

A), does not explain Fascism since they do support private property.

Thesis:
Between the years 1900 to 1950, both Italy and Germany responded to the aftermaths of WWI by becoming fascist nations and as well getting rid of communist idea from their society. However, compared to Italy, Germany carried a more violent response with killings of specific people.

Answer: A.
- since it doesn’t indicate how fascism is also intensely supportive of violence to achieve political means. Meaning it includes removing the “weak”, either by execution or deportation. Answer “A” also lacks explaining how fascism promotes youth and revolution, with a particular focus on strengthening desirable characteristics.

Between 1900 and 1970 both the United States in the Americas and Germany in Europe, responded similarly to economic destitution, although the Great Depression caused drastic declines in output, severe unemployment, and acute deflation in almost every country of the world, Germany in particularly was the most severely afflicted due to the Treaty of Versailles forcing them to pay reparations. On the contrary the United States government increased relief spending, it also contributed to the crisis by laying off employees and making cuts to health care, education, and other social programs.

before you say anything, I decided to use the date 1970 because I figured that a country/ nation doesn't just recover right away, and that maybe 1970 would be a more accurate date indicating a nations restoration from such crisis. but either way I'm still a bit skeptical.

Time Stamp is addressed in a post above.
Unnecessary: although the Great Depression caused drastic declines in output, severe unemployment, and acute deflation in almost every country of the world, Germany in particularly was the most severely afflicted due to the Treaty of Versailles forcing them to pay reparations.

What is this comparing / contrasting with? On the contrary the United States government increased relief spending, it also contributed to the crisis by laying off employees and making cuts to health care, education, and other social programs.

We should have bite-sized argumentative categories, like "both the United States and Britain passed social welfare programs" As evidence in the body, I would cite unemployment programs, retirement social security, etc.

answer: A

Thesis: Between the years of 1900 and 1950 in Europe, Italy and Britain/France governments both responded to the economic destitution caused in the wake of WWI and the Great Depression through a socialist economy where production is controlled/controlled and both supported public-work jobs payed through by taxes; however their reactions were different in that in Italy they remained conservative and opposed all radical reformations while Britain/France welcomed and advocated for Enlightment ideals and movements.

Time Stamp ends with beginning of WWII I believe.
Cat 1) Italy is actually a "corporate state"; we seem to be a bit confused here at I think it is very understandable. When we see the word SOCIALISM, we have to determine if it truly a socialist system (what begins in the USSR) or a democracy embracing "socialist" ideals. Italy attacked socialism and so did western democracies, the irony, like today with the passing of legislation for the Coronavirus recovery, is that these democratic governments embrace some socialist ideals (the welfare state measures). So we cannot say that Italy, France, Britain and the US ARE socialist, because they are not. But we can argue that they are on a spectrum of how much socialist legislation they have passed.
Cat 2) public works - nice
Cat 3) authoritarian vs. retining enlightened freedom = awesome

“A” does not describe fascism because it suggests the abolition of private property, which is a communist ideal. Fascism does support private property rights.

In Europe, between the years 1900 and 1939, both Italy and Germany responded to economic destitution caused in the wake of WWI and the Great Depression by adopting nationalistic fascist governments, as well as rejecting and despising communism. However, in Germany, there was a heavy insistence on a racial revolution that is unparalleled and differed from racial attitudes in Italy.
